Hawk Ridge Compost Facility is the largest municipal biosolids composting facility in New England. It is ideally situated on a 280-acre farm in central Maine and is Casella Organics' premier facility. Over 35 municipalities have been permitted into Hawk Ridge since it began operation in 1990, driving major expansions in 1991, 1992, 1994, and 2000.
We are very proud of Hawk Ridge's great success. It has won the Environmental Protection Agency’s Beneficial Use of Biosolids Award (1991), the Maine Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence in the category of Sustainable Development (2000), the EPA National Biosolids Exemplary Management Award (2001), and The United States Composting Council Composter of the Year Award (2004).
