Wood Ash Maine
This product is certified organic

Wood Ash is produced from the combustion of clean wood and bark to produce electricity. The resulting product is a agricultural soil amendment ideal for balancing soil pH and enhancing nutrient levels. Wood Ash contains significant amounts of magnesium, potassium and many other micronutrients important to healthy crop growth. Since 1983, Wood Ash has been chosen by farmers to increase soil pH, improve soil fertility and increase crop yield. Wood Ash is easily applied with conventional lime or manure spreading equipment.

Recommendations

Agriculture

Since New England has naturally acidic soils, landscapers, gardeners and farmers frequently apply Wood Ash as a cost effective lime substitute. Wood Ash efficiently replaces commercial lime and provides soluble Potash, Phosphate and Magnesium. Download individual product sheet in PDF format for specific spreading recommendations.

Composting

Wood Ash is used as a bulking agent at compost operations throughout New England. Wood Ash helps control odors, improves compost appearance and may even eliminate the need for screening.

Potato Crops

2.6 tons of Fort Fairfield Wood Ash is equivalent to the liming value of one ton of commercial lime and provides approximately 10.5 of available P, 61.0 lbs of soluble K, and 41 lbs of magnesium. Typically Fort Fairfield Wood Ash is applied after potato crop is harvested and before the next rotation crop. For example, apply Fort Fairfield Wood Ash after potato harvest and before planting small grains or after grain harvest and before the next grain planting or hay seeding.

Topsoil Production

Wood Ash serves as an important ingredient in topsoil production. Wood Ash balances pH, darkens blended materials, adds valuable micronutrients and organic matter.
